About the Chai Sugar Cookies
Walking through a spice and tea section in a local store, I couldn’t help but smell all the delicious, various flavors they had. Then I smelled some chai tea mixes. The feeling of home and fall came right to my mind. It’s a warm and comforting blend, perfect for drinking on cold nights. Why not have that same cozy feeling, but with a cookie?
That’s how this chai sugar cookie recipe came to be. These spiced sugar cookies are perfect for those cold fall nights, or when you’re craving that feeling of fall that will soon come. The concept is similar to a snickerdoodle, as you roll the snickerdoodle in cinnamon and granulated sugar. We do the same thing with these chai spiced cookies, by rolling the dough into sugar and the chai spice mix. By also incorporating the spices into the cookies we created the perfect chai spiced sugar cookies.
What do Chai Cookies Taste Like?
Our homemade chai spice mix includes these spices:
- Cardamom
- Allspice
- Nutmeg
- Cinnamon
- Ginger
- Cloves
With all of these spices, our chai sugar cookies taste warm, spicy, and like fall in one delicious soft cookie.
Are Chai and Tea the Same Thing?
Chai means tea when translated. So yes, chai and tea are technically the same things. Chai tea is traditionally black tea with spices. However, our spice mix doesn’t include black tea. Instead, it relies on the spice flavors of chai tea that we made into a spice mix. Everything normally found in chai, except the black tea. Hence, rather than call them chai tea sugar cookies, we use the terms chai sugar cookies or chai spice sugar cookies.
Ingredients in the Spiced Chai Cookies
- Chai Spice Mix – Our spice blend is mixed into the cookie, and also used to roll the cookie dough balls in before baking. It creates an irresistible, perfect flavor.
- Shortening – Shortening contains all fat and no water. When baked, this creates a soft and moist cookie.
- Corn Syrup – Helps create a good chew, while also maintaining moisture.
How to Make Chai Sugar Cookies
